According to Hindu tradition, whenever Lord Vishnu incarnates to restore dharma, Sheshnag also accompanies him. As Lakshman with Lord Rama and as Balaram with Lord Krishna, he plays the role of protector and guide. In Vrindavan, devotees affectionately refer to Lord Balaram as Dau Dada, meaning elder brother. The name reflects the deep love and respect devotees have for Krishna's powerful and caring brother.
