Azhar

U/A 13+ • Sports • Cricket • 2016

Azhar is based on the life and times of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, who ends up becoming Indias most controversial sportsperson of the 1990s. From setting world records to getting embroiled in the first ever matchfixing scandal the country witnessed, the film traces Azhars insurmountable highs and his tremendous lows. We witness the metamorphosis of the man who not only enjoys a flamboyant life style but also becomes accustomed to the adulation of fans and the media, as he rises to be captain of the most watched sport in the Indian diaspora. Even as he is set to create a record of having played 100 test matches, the biggest twist in his career comes when he is accused of being involved in the matchfixing scandal. This goes on to cut short his brilliant career, bringing him much shame and ignominy. From being labelled a living legend, Azhar becomes the prime accused. How that change happens and what Azhar goes through when faced with lifedamning allegations form the crux of the story. The movie gives us an inner view of the cricketing hero who fell from grace and changed the gentlemans game forever.
